A Cake Creation of the Imagination

When I make cakes for people, I normally tell them the only limit is their imagination. Some of my favorite cakes to work on are cakes for kids because they really come up with the wildest things. Two weeks ago, I got a call from a mom who needed a cake– and fast! When I asked her what kind of cake she was looking for, she told me her five-year-old was really into bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster. Now that sounded like fun! A cake devoted entirely to bigfoot and Nessy. I could definitely work with that.

This cake was a real treat to make! Needless to say, it was my first bigfoot cake…and my first Loch Ness monster cake. And that just goes to prove that if your kid can dream it, Cream of the Cakes will find a way to do it!

A Cake for the Tennis Pro

I recently got to make a tennis cake for a 50th birthday party and I LOVE how it turned out. The bright, vibrant colors are as cool as a morning game at the club. And the flavors? Well, let’s just say this chocolate cake filled with whipped buttercream scored the game point!

A Supremely Classy Bridal Shower

In my opinion, the right baked goods always add the perfect touch to a special event. One of the things I love most about owning a bakery is working with people who have a vision for their special event. I love that these people bring me into the mix to make sweets and treats that will add to the ambiance of their special day. Last weekend I had the opportunity to work with a party planner who had a crisp vision of feminine perfection for a bridal shower she was planning. We put our heads together can created the most absolutely adorable mini-cakes, tea cakes, cookies and cupcakes. The result was a bridal shower with magazine potential.

My Fair Ladybug

Making cakes for children is always a lot of fun. That’s because kids have wild imaginations and like whimsical design, color and detail. Making this ladybug cake for four-year-old Eliana’s birthday was a great way to really immerse myself in all things childlike. The fondant ladybugs turned our adorable while the contrasting green and hot pink made this cake really pop. How could a treat like this NOT bring a big smile to a birthday girl’s face?

I think cupcakes are a great option for weddings! They offer variety to your guests because they can pick a flavor they like and enjoy it. What’s not to love about that?

At a recent wedding I did, the bride and groom picked several flavors of cupcakes to treat their wedding guests to. They were a hit! And the cupcakes displayed brilliantly, too.

These wedding cupcakes were a classy sweet treat.

Cupcakes: Always a Home Run!

Over the weekend, I catered the grand opening of Strike 3 Pitching, a new softball practice and instruction facility in Bloomington, Minnesota. The team at Strike 3 had undoubtedly worked hard prepping their brand new facility for their very own opening day. And just like a hot summer day spent at the stadium, the menu I created for them reflected my own take on the very best foods of the ballpark. Here’s a sampling of the menu:

Fastball Fancy Franks: Miniature beef franks wrapped in bacon and seared in a delicious secret sauce.
Coach’s Mini Caprese Salads: Bite size versions of a light, refreshing summer favorite.
Buffalo Chicken Bruschetta: Like bruschetta, but made with buffalo chicken and all the things that go with it!
Beer Cheese: This creamy cheese, made with a true ballpark staple, tasted great with veggies and pretzels.
Fly Pop Popcorn: My secret recipe! Tasted a lot like a grown up version of Cracker Jacks!

And because no celebration is complete without the sweets, I crafted these optic yellow softball cupcakes for Strike 3′s guests. They were, without sounding too cheesy, a home run!

Slumber Party Cake

One of my favorite customers recently hosted an all girls sleepover party. Even though this young lady is well into her twenties, she wanted to bring back the late nights of gossiping, board games, snacks and chick flicks with her friends. To celebrate a birthday, she invited all the girls over to her house for a throwback sleepover…and she asked Cream of the Cakes to help make the cake!

I created a custom cake just for my customer. It featured all the things she loved about childhood sleepovers. Take a look.

From the girls bundled up in their sleeping bags to the half-eaten pizza and bottles of sugar laden Mello Yello, this cake has all the ingredients for a fun night in!

Cookies All Dressed Up

Prom is such a fun time for teens in our community and it’s especially fun for the girls! The hair, make-up and glamor of prom night is often the highlight of the night for a lot of ladies (sorry, guys). That’s why I had to make something that reflected the dolled-up attitude of prom.

These decorated sugary butter cookies in the shapes of shoes and crowns were made to capture the diva in every girl as she rushes off to prom. I dropped them off at one of my favorite hair salons so they could share them with their pre-prom guests just in time for the big night!

Remember to keep these personalized cookies in mind as you plan graduation parties, summer birthday parties and events!
